This course aims to provide specialised and advanced study in library and information studies through elective subjects to enable students to gain the knowledge and skills vital to managing information in an electronic environment.
An undergraduate degree and postgraduate diploma in librarianship or recordkeeping or a related discipline or an undergraduate degree with four to five years of professional experience.
Students should preferably have access to a PC with a CD-ROM drive and a modem. Access to the Internet, email and a web browser (such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) via a commercial service provider.
The
course of study is one year full-time or two to three years part-time.
The Master of Information Management comprises six elective subjects. To
specialise in library and information studies, candidates must take between
four and six electives from the library and information studies specialist
electives or the common electives.
Up to two electives may be taken outside the chosen specialist stream, either
from the archives and records stream or, with permission, from the offerings of
other courses or institutions.
Please note that subjects are offered subject to demand and staff availability.
Assessment is based on research papers, project reports and practical assignments.
There is provision for advanced standing and credit transfer. Please consult the course coordinator.
