Aims

This course aims to educate information professionals to manage information in all media to meet the social and business needs of the community; to link the theoretical basis of recordkeeping to the best professional practices; and to understand and apply appropriate information technology to recordkeeping.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree and postgraduate diploma in librarianship or recordkeeping or a related discipline or an undergraduate degree with four to five years of professional experience.

Special requirements

Students should preferably have access to a PC with a CD-ROM drive and a modem. Access to the Internet, email and a web browser (such as Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) via a commercial service provider.

Course structure

The course

The course of study is one year full-time or two to three years part-time.
The Master of Information Management comprises six elective subjects. To specialise in archives and records, candidates must take between four and six electives from the archives and records specialist electives or the common electives.
Up to two electives may be taken outside the archives and records stream, either from the library and information studies stream or, with permission, from the offerings of other courses or institutions.

Assessment

Assessment is based on research papers, project reports and practical assignments.
