This double degree caters for the demand within the information technology industry for people with both professional computing and professional communication skills. There is also a demand for graduates with computing expertise in a range of areas that require professional communication skills, including journalism and media-related occupations as well as multimedia development. The course is directed towards those students who have relevant career goals and who combine ability with high motivation. Potential employers include mainstream and alternative media organisations and a wide variety of public and private organisations.
Applicants should have met the appropriate entry criteria for both the Bachelor of Arts (Communication) and the Bachelor of Computing. All applicants should be willing to undertake a normal workload of 48 points a year full-time or 24 points a year part-time or by off-campus learning.

The double degree offers students a structured sequence of study that combines studies in most aspects of computing and communication studies.
A candidate for the double degree must fulfil the following requirements to receive the awards of Bachelor of Arts (Communication)/ Bachelor of Computing:
(a) a mass communications major (48 points)
(b) an arts minor (24 points)
(c) arts electives (24 points) including 12 points at first-year level
(d) the prescribed 16-unit computing sequence in systems development, business
systems or multimedia technology (96 points)

Minors can be taken in Australian studies, community studies, history-
politics, journalism, Indonesian, Australian Indigenous studies, psychology,
sociology or writing (details on each discipline are provided under the entry
for the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences).
