Offered: Synopsis: Introduction to distributed/client-server systems. Client and server operating systems. Network operating system features to support C/S. Middleware: RPC,MOM,TP monitors. SQL database servers. Data warehouses. Client-server transactions. Client server and the Internet. Internet database systems. Distributed objects, CORBA, DCOM, OpenDOC. Distributed systems management, client server tools. Stored procedures, functions and triggers as a tool for client server development. WWW DB access via scripting languages such as Perl, PHP,ASP and JSP. 32bit OS required. Acess to the university's computer systems is compulsory Assessment: Assignments (2): 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60% Contact Hours: 4 hours per week Prerequisites: GCO2815 or GCO9804, and GCO1811 or GCO9805 or equivalent Prohibitions: CSE3450, GCO4823 |
