Applications for admission to the BAL&D and BEd(Hons) programs are made
directly to the faculty:
Applicants
who do not have the minimum entrance requirements are encouraged to complete
the following:
1. Tertiary studies in the TAFE system (Certificate Level IV and above).
2. Single units through Open Learning or the university.
Applicants who have successfully completed these studies and wish to be
considered for admission to an undergraduate education course may apply through
VTAC. Additional experience in a related field will also be considered. For
further information, contact the Faculty of Education.
On
the Peninsula campus, the faculty offers the Bachelor of Adult Learning and
Development (BAL&D), the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd), and
the Bachelor of Primary Education (BPrimEd). On the Gippsland campus, it offers
the Bachelor of Primary Education (BPrimEd), the Bachelor of Secondary
Education (BSecEd) and the Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation
(BS&OR). The Bachelor of Education (Honours) (BEd[Hons]) program is offered
on the Clayton campus.
In conjunction with other faculties, the Faculty of Education offers a series
of double degrees designed to qualify students for a wide range of employment
options. These double degrees are designed to provide students with
opportunities for careers in both education and other occupations such as
science, computing, business, information management, law, music, and outdoor
education. They also allow students to undertake studies in other faculties
with students who are not preparing for careers in education. These degrees are
not all available on each campus, nor do they all prepare students for all
levels of teaching.
The following table shows the location of each of the faculty's undergraduate
preservice degrees and for which level each is designed.
Credit
may be granted for work already completed at Monash University or at another
tertiary institution, including overseas universities on a case-by-case basis.
Application for credit should be made at the time of enrolment. Application
forms may be obtained from the faculty office on each campus.
With
the double-degree (secondary stream) courses and the Bachelor of Secondary
Education course, each student must choose two methods and practice-of-teaching
unit sets (A and B sequence = method set). Students are advised to consult the
following list of teaching units together with the outlines for each unit and
their prerequisites. This information should then be used to choose two sets of
method and practice-of-teaching units.
The prerequisites for entry to these units are determined by the faculty and do
not necessarily match the requirements of particular employers in specific
subject fields. Students in doubt about the suitability of their qualifications
for employment with the Victorian Department of Education, Employment and
Training are invited to check with the department's recruitment unit.
With permission from the course coordinators, students may undertake study in a
mixed mode (ie on and off-campus).
Students
must successfully complete teaching practice which consists of 80 days of
supervised school experience. Students who are employed in schools who are
required to do 80 days practicum must complete 40 days of supervised practicum
in a setting other than the school in which they are employed. Students must be available
to undertake school placements on a full-time basis and attend their placement for full
days.
