EDF5464Methods and practice of teaching chemistry A(EDU) Proposed to be offered next in 2002 Dr D Corrigan 6 points + 3 hours per week + First semester + Clayton (on-campus), Gippsland (OCDL) + Prerequisites: Bachelor of Science or Applied Science with a major study in chemistry, a minor study in chemistry or biochemistry is essential Synopsis: This unit is an introduction to the relationships between learning and teaching in chemistry. Teaching strategies and contexts for use in chemistry classes in Years 7 to 12 will be explored. Methods for assessing and monitoring students will be introduced. The relationship between science, technology and society will be a focus. Students studying on-campus will participate in a camp in March. Assessment: Assignments: 45% + Web page development: 30%, Class activities: 25% + Student participation in the unit is vital and an 80% attendance requirement is required so students can fully participate in the workshops via attendance or on-line chat forum. |
