Note that at the completion of level 4, the mechanical engineering component of the double degree is divided into the following four streams: 1. Fluids/Energy; 2. Design; 3. Mechatronics; 4. General. This streaming continues to the completion of the degree. Students may select any of the four streams, but only the design stream will be timetabled to accommodate the subjects in the double-degree program. If another stream is selected, it will be the responsibility of the student to accommodate any consequent timetable clashes.

Stream subjects

Select two elective subjects from the chosen stream. The subjects are shown in list 1 for the BE(Mechanical). The elective ENG4611 Schools technology project may not be included as one of the electives.

* See the Art and Design section for full details of design subjects. Students should note that prerequisites for these subjects will consist of a combination of engineering and design subjects. Contact your course adviser for further details before completing your enrolment in design subjects.

** The 4 cp drafting subjects may be substituted for the 3 cp drafting by students transferring to this program.

Requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering
The student requires 192 credit points for the Bachelor of Engineering degree, of which not less than 160 credit points must be obtained in subjects prescribed by this subject list which are also listed in the course in mechanical engineering in subject list I. Where alternative subjects are offered, students are expected to enrol in the first-listed subject unless timetabling restrictions make this impractical.
