Synopsis: Newton0s Laws, work-energy and conservation of momentum involving friction and simple rotational systems. Basic principles of hydrostatics and streamline fluid flow relating to buoyancy, forces in hydraulic systems, Bernoulli0s principle. Harmonic motion in simple vibrating systems, damped and forced oscillations, wave propagation and transmission of vibrations and sound, applications of wave including Doppler velocitometry, polarised light and diffraction effects. Image formation in lens systems, interference and thin films.

Assessment: Examination (2.5 hours): 70% + Assignments, tests and laboratory: 30%
