Synopsis: Stoichiometry, atomic theory of matter, chemical periodicity, covalent compounds, gases, condensed phases and solutions, equilibrium, acid/base reactions, dissolution and precipitation equilibria, thermodynamic processes and thermochemistry, spontaneous change and equilibrium, electrochemistry, solid-state structures (close-packed structures and structures of silicates and ceramics) and a brief treatment of organic structures and polymers.

Assessment: Examinations (2.5 hours): 70% + Laboratory work: 20% + Computer tests: 10%
