Synopsis
This unit is designed to give you the historical background and conceptual tools to understand the contemporary world. It traces the key political, economic, and social developments since 1945 that have brought us to where we are today.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of modern world history.
- Understand who we are and how we got here.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of current affairs and debates about the future.
- Demonstrate improved oral and written communication skills, particularly in relation to the analysis and explanation of ideas and the development of argument.
- Successfully undertake a variety of research and writing tasks.

Workload requirements
Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. A unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week.
