The Graduate Certificate of Clinical Simulation enables individuals to apply principles and theories that inform educational practice in a range of clinical and other relevant contexts to undertake professional and highly skilled work and as a pathway for further learning. This practice-based qualification is suitable for a broad range of health professionals who are, or will be, engaged in simulation-based education. This includes in teaching, assessment, evaluation, mentoring and supervision of health professionals and students in a range of clinical and other contexts. The qualification is also suited to health professionals who use simulation for healthcare service quality improvement or systems testing. However, the use of simulation as an educational method is prioritised.

This course is not available to international students who are holders of an Australian student visa, for study onshore in Australia. However holders of some other categories of Australian visas living in Australia, and students studying off-campus by distance learning (where this option is available) and living outside of Australia, may be eligible for this course.

Upon successful completion of this course it is expected that students will be able to:
- Articulate a personal philosophy of learner-centred education in simulation
- Describe and apply learning theories that inform educational practice in clinical simulation
- Identify and apply principles of curriculum design, using simulation to meet learning objectives
- Discuss contemporary issues in healthcare simulation
- Plan, design, implement, assess and evaluate a simulation-based education programme
- Describe and practice feedback and debriefing strategies to support learning in simulation
- Develop a strategy for further learning as a simulation educator
- Identify the role of mentoring and supervision for safe clinical practice
This course consists of 24 points structured into three units.
This study will provide you with professional teaching and advanced supervisory skills in both clinical and non-clinical environments using simulation as an educational method. It will facilitate the application of principles and theories that inform simulation educational practice and specialist knowledge through the choice of elective studies.

Note: Students will receive 12 points of specified credit for elective units for prior studies undertaken at the Monash Institute for Health and Clinical Education (MIHCE) by means of assessed short courses.
All units are 6 credit points unless otherwise stated.
