This Bachelor of Education (Honours) specialisation qualifies graduates to teach primary school children from five to 12 years of age in primary schools. Students develop an understanding of how primary school aged children learn and how they can be effectively and creatively taught in key curriculum areas such as English and literacies, mathematics, arts education, humanities and social education, science, health and physical education, and studies of the environment and sustainability. In addition, students can develop content knowledge in specific areas by completing discipline studies in English and literacy, mathematics and numeracy or Languages Other than English (LOTE).
Units are 6 credit points unless otherwise stated.
Include developing understanding of teaching and learning theories for primary school children, and how to critically reflect on contemporary education issues and child development.

Focus on the key elements of the primary curriculum; English and literacies, mathematics, arts education, humanities and social education, science, physical and health education, assessment and evaluation and studies of the environment and sustainability.

Develop content knowledge in specific areas of learning. If the Primary education specialisation is taken as a double degree with the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Visual Arts, the discipline studies requirement is completed in the partner degree.

Comprise professional experience and research units. Students engage in research, develop understanding of professional identity and leadership, and gain practical teaching experience by completing 80 days of supervised professional experience in primary schools.
