Structure

The following text:

  • This four-year course is based upon the four-year engineering degree structure, from which it is derived. In particular, the honours program is integral with the four years of study, rather than a separate degree, and is undertaken in the fourth year, with enrolment in the honours research program predicated upon students reaching a credit level of performance in the first three year levels with a distinction average in level three FIT units.

Replaces:

Students must seek approval from the course coordinator if they wish to enrol in a unit/s from the above list which is not in their stream.

Full-time candidates are required to attend a minimum of 10 of the school's postgraduate seminars during each year of their candidature. Part-time candidates are required to attend a minimum of five seminars per year.

Solo performance stream


In addition, students in the solo performance stream must complete a portfolio comprising a 60-minute solo or solo and ensemble recital (65 per cent), which is recorded on compact disc and submitted with a recital annotation booklet of 1,500 words (10 per cent) and a research essay of 9,000 words (25 per cent) in a bound folder.

Orchestral studies stream

Students in the orchestral studies stream must complete a portfolio conforming to one of the following options:

  • Option 1 - 60-minute recital, plus a 45-minute DVD submission of a mock audition consisting of orchestral excerpts and a movement from a solo concerto, and a 3,000 word exegesis.
  • Option 2 - 60-minute recital, plus a 30-minute DVD submission of a mock audition consisting of orchestral excerpts and a movement from a solo concerto, and a 5,000 word exegesis.
  • Option 3 - 60-minute recital, plus a 9,000 word exegesis.

Below are the previous requirements now superceded:

Students must complete:

  • APG5836 Directed reading in music
  • APG5840 Research project in musicology or ethnomusicology
