DescriptionEconomics provides training in logical thought and analysis which can be applied widely in every-day decision making, not just to matters which are usually labelled 'economic'. The underlying philosophy of the facultys teaching and research program is that a rapidly changing world requires adaptable analytical skills. Accordingly, its aim is to prepare students with a wide range of career options that are readily adapted to the issues of the day. These may be positions in industry, government, or in non-government and international organisations. In the new information economy, professionals are confronted with masses of data. They are expected to apply econometric methods to analyse this data and provide evidence to management for informed decision making. The applied econometrics programs are designed to develop expertise in this area, by providing quantitative skills to carry out regression analysis, forecasting, financial market analysis and survey data analysis.
