Course description

The course enables students to gain knowledge and skills which are essential attributes of graduates employed in the financial services industry. The flexible structure enables students to construct a program that best suits their future career.

Credit for prior studies

Candidates who have completed graduate level studies considered to be equivalent to one or more units may be eligible for credit for a maximum of eight credits (48 points).

Course structure

Students must complete 16 units (96 points) as follows:

(a) completion of four core units (24 points):

  • AFF9150 Options, futures and risk management
  • AFF9250 Financial management theory
  • AFF9260 Australian capital markets
  • AFF9350 Portfolio management and theory

(b) completion of four units (24 points) from the following list:

  • AFF9020 Introduction to risk principles
  • AFF9130 Financial planning environment
  • AFF9140 Bank lending
  • AFF9160 International banking and finance, or AFX9870 International study program in banking and finance
  • AFF9180 Financial institutions planning and strategy
  • AFF9770 Risk financing and treasury management
  • BTX9380 Banking law and practice
  • ETX9520 Quantitative methods for risk analysis
  • MKF9790 Banking and financial services marketing
  • or any 9000-level unit taught by the Department of Accounting and Finance, subject to approval from the course director.

(c) completion of four finance units (24 points) at 5000-level from the Department of Accounting and Finance, subject to approval from the course director

(d) completion of four graduate-level units offered by any department within the Faculty of Business and Economics, subject to approval from the course director.
