Course description

This double-degree program allows students to complete the requirements for the individual Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws programs in a minimum of five years of study.

Course structure

The commerce component requires that students complete 96 credit points of study, including at least seven compulsory units and a major sequence in one of the following disciplines: accounting, finance, economics, business law and taxation, econometrics and business statistics, management or marketing. Students may graduate with the Bachelor of Commerce degree after four years of study, provided they have completed a minimum of 156 credit points of study including the 96 of credit points of commerce units and met all the requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce degree.
The law component requires that students complete 156 credit points of study including 16 compulsory units and a further 12 elective law units.

Course requirements
Bachelor of Commerce degree requirements

Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:
(i) Five compulsory common core units (30 credit points):

(ii) At least two units from the following list:

(iii) A major specialisation of at least eight units (48 credit points) in a discipline or field of study of the faculty with at least 12 credit points at each of second and third-year levels (disciplines are defined by department prefixes, and fields of study are those sets of related units that may be defined in the catalogue of courses and units). To complete a major in the department of Business Law and Taxation, students must complete seven units (42 credit points) of study in units with a prefix of BTC with at least 12 points at each of second and third-year levels, in addition to completing at least six credit points of study in an approved law unit (normally LAW2100 Contract law).
All units taken as part of the major specialisation must be taught by departments of the faculty on the Clayton campus.
(iv) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points).
(v) A minimum of four third-year-level units (24 credit points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(vi) 60 points of law units identified below (*).

Bachelor of Laws degree requirements

Students must complete 28 units (156 credit points including the 60 points of law units counted as part of the Bachelor of Commerce degree) from the Faculty of Law as specified below.

First year - 54 points
Second year - 48 points
Third year - 54 points
Fourth year - 51 points

* Students may not graduate from the Bachelor of Commerce degree until they have completed these law units.

Fifth year - 45 points

Students have a maximum time limit of 10 years to complete the course from the date of commencement.
