Synopsis: This unit reinforces and builds upon the legal research skills attained at first year level in the legal research component of LAW1101 and LAW1102, and prepares students for legal research challenges in the workplace. The unit adopts a flexible learning model using the LEX Online Learning Environment supplemented by face to face seminars in selected weeks. Topics covered include: the legal research process and search strategy, secondary sources (books, journal articles, government publications and web sites), primary sources (case law, legislation, judicial consideration), foreign and international law (international treaties and conventions, UK, EU and US law).

Assessment: Series of online activities completed using LEX: 50% + WebCT review exercises: 20% + Analytical piece on a designated activity (1200 words): 30%

Contact Hours: First Semester and Second Semester, online, plus one hour seminar selected weeks aligned with LAW3101 Administrative Law Streams.
