General course information

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce provides an international degree in business and commerce. The course is designed to provide maximum flexibility and to allow depth and breadth in the study of the major business and commerce discipline areas. Its structure provides the capacity to tailor applications and focus in different contexts and different environments while ensuring knowledge of the theory, principles and core elements in the relevant discipline areas.

Majors and other studies in the degree

Students must complete a major in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, management or marketing.
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the South Africa campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. They can also, in some cases, form a second major in a business discipline.
Up to six open electives may also be taken from other campuses or other Monash faculties.

Course structure

The degree requirements are:
(a) Completion of six compulsory units (36 credit points):

(b) Completion of a major of at least eight units (48 credit points) in a discipline from the faculty with at least two units (12 credit points) at each of second and third-year levels. All units taken as part of the major are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(c) A total of 24 units (144 credit points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.
(d) A maximum of 10 first-year-level units (60 credit points).
(e) A minimum of six units (36 credit points) at third-year level, of which at least four (24 credit points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(f) An option to include a maximum of six units (36 credit points) in disciplines taught by other faculties or from units offered on campuses other than the campus delivering this program.

(g) At least four non-compulsory units (24 credit points) must be outside the main field of study.
