The following should be read in conjunction with the statement
on the Bachelor of Commerce. Specialisations from Commerce are available in
accounting, finance, business law and taxation, economics, econometrics and
business statistics, management and marketing. The double-degree course of
Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Commerce requires a minimum of four years
full-time study, or five years for the degree with honours, or the equivalent
in part-time study. Completion of the degree in four years would require an
overload of one unit in each of two years. Students must complete units to the
value of a minimum of 204 points subject to the following conditions:
(a) 108 points must be chosen from units offered by the Faculty of
Business and Economics (Clayton) and must include:
(i) Completion of the following compulsory units:
(ii) Completion of
a major in a discipline or field of study of the faculty. This requires
students to complete 48 points of study in a single discipline or field of
study with at least 12 points at each of second and third-year level.
Disciplines are defined by department prefixes and fields of study are those
sets of related units that may be defined in the handbook.
(iii) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points). In order to
meet this requirement, students are able undertake the second-year versions of
the appropriate number of compulsory units.
(b) 96 points must be chosen from the School of Music, Faculty of Arts,
and must include:
(i) A performance major (54 points), comprising MUS1980, MUS1990, MUS2980,
MUS2990, MUS3580, MUS3610, MUS3620, MUS3980, MUS3990.
(ii) The compulsory units MUS1100, MUS1110 and MUS3390.
(iii) In second year, 12 points chosen from: MUS2020, MUS2030, MUS2110,
MUS2120, MUS2140, MUS2660.
(iv) In fourth year, 12 points chosen from MUS3310, MUS3330, MUS3490,
MUS3660, MUS3830, MUS3860, MUS3880, MUS3910.
Students must have their program of study approved by the course director or
the course director's nominee prior to commencement of the relevant year.
