Professional Practice 2 (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit will cover the important approaches to the teaching of instrumental and vocal music, expecially methodologies that aim to teach the beginner. A weekly lecture will present methods such as Orff, Kodaly, Suzuki and Yamaha. A further practicum class will offer either; (i) A seminar focusing on instumental techniqie and analysis of playing in instrument specific groups (Prerequisite: a minimum mark of 70% in MUS2020,) or (ii) A seminar focusing on School music programs - what to expect and how to prepare for teaching in the school environment (no prerequisite.)

Assessment: An examination of no more than 30 minutes consisting of a student presentation followed by a viva voce. A wriiten synopsis will be handed in at the examination. (4500 words): 100%

Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 hour lecture and 1 hour seminar) per week

Prerequisites: MUS2020 or permission
