The Bachelor of Business (Accounting)/Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance) double-degree course is a combination of two degree programs and is structured so that successful completion leads to the award of the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and the Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance).

Entry requirements

(a) Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 25 in English (any) and mathematics (any).

(b) Comparable qualifications

Applicants may also satisfy entry requirements with qualifications equivalent to the VCE, eg TAFE qualifications (the first year of a TAFE associate diploma or equivalent TAFE qualification) or comparable Year 12 qualifications, including International Baccalaureate, or other approved tertiary study.

(c) Special admission

Students who have not successfully completed VCE or equivalent may satisfy entry requirements by completing at least two Monash non-award single units or open learning (OLA) units. Fees

Fees will depend upon the student's residency status. Local residents will be liable for either the fees set by the government under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) or for full tuition fees as determined by the university. Advanced standing (credit for work done elsewhere)

In addition to part one, section five of the degree regulations, the following credit transfers have been standardised for the Bachelor of Business (Accounting)/Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance):

• Holders of a completed certificate IV in a business-related area from a recognised TAFE institute may apply for credit for up to a maximum of four units.
• Holders of a completed diploma or advanced diploma in a business- related area from a recognised TAFE institute may apply for credit for up to a maximum of eight units.

Professional accreditation

The degree satisfies the academic requirements for membership of the CPA Australia, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, for senior associate membership of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Mode of offering

Day and evening classes are offered at Caulfield campus. Not all units are offered in all semesters.

Duration

The course will normally be completed in four years on a full-time basis and eight years on a part-time basis, with the usual load being two or three units per semester. Evening classes are held between the hours of 6 pm and 10 pm, with students attending two or three evenings per week.

Plus eight electives

In addition to the 24 units (144 points) in the 192-point program, students must choose eight open electives from any discipline within any faculty, subject to approval from other faculties.

The new course structure introduces greater flexibility but the following additional regulations must be observed:

• The number of first-year-level units must not exceed 13 (78 points).
• There must be at least eight third-year-level units (48 points) of which at least four must be from those offered by the faculty on the Caulfield campus.
• At least two (12 points) of the open electives must be taken outside the main field of study.

Progression to further studies

Completion of the BBus(Acc)/BBus(Bkg&Fin) will enable progression to an honours year and a variety of postgraduate courses either at Monash or other Australian or overseas universities. Details of specific postgraduate courses are available on inquiry from the faculty.
