Course code: 3191 + Course abbreviation: MBusAdm/MRiskMgt + Course director: Associate Professor Peter Reed + Offered on-campus at Caulfield + Normally completed in five semesters of full-time study or 10 semesters of part-time study

This double-degree course aims to provide a broad-based foundation in business and management while providing specialist knowledge and skills in risk management.

Applicants require a degree with a minimum of a credit average (60 per cent) from a recognised tertiary institution, and a minimum of two years relevant full-time post-degree work experience, preferred four years.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the MBA Programs office as to the 2003 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

The course comprises 20 units as follows:
(a) Ten core units:

• MBA5005 Strategic management

(b) Plus eight Master of Risk Management units

• AFF9020 Introduction to risk principles
• AFF9770 Risk financing and treasury management
• BTF9760 Risk control and the law
• ETX9250 Quantitative methods for risk analysis
• BTF4031 Insurance law
• AFF4031 The principles of risk transfer
• AFF5011 Issues in risk management
• AFF5021 Case studies in risk management

(c) Two electives

• Elective 1 - 4000-level unit (choose from any discipline within any faculty at Monash University, subject to approval from the faculty concerned and the course director of the Master of Risk Management program)
• Elective 2 - 5000-level unit (choose from any discipline within any faculty at Monash University, subject to approval from the faculty concerned and the course director of the Master of Risk Management program)

Students would normally complete the 10 core MBA units before undertaking electives as part of the Master of Risk Management program.
