This eight-unit course is designed to help people understand the conceptual framework of public policy and management in the public sector. The course will analyse contemporary major challenges in public policy and public management and the range of solutions being canvassed to address these by modern government. The course builds on the core knowledge of the first three units to provide more in-depth knowledge of public policy and management and a higher-level qualification.
Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a
recognised tertiary institution or an executive certificate offered by this
faculty with an average grade of credit or above.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of
Management as to the 2003 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually
and are therefore subject to change. Applicants may be eligible for a maximum
of four credit exemptions for units considered to be equivalent to particular
units in the course of study. The course director assesses credit
exemptions.
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and
Management, including successful studies in two masters 5000- level units from
the Department of Management, will be able to articulate directly into one of
the Department of Management's masters courses. To complete a masters course,
students will be required to complete a minimum of four masters 5000-level units.
The course consists of the following four core units.

(b) Four electives chosen from the following units:
or graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University, with approval from the course director. A maximum of two 5000-level units may be selected.
