Graduate Diploma of Business (Management)


General Information

Course code: 1741 + Gippsland campus + Full-fee-paying course: unit fee $1650 (2002 fee); course fee $13,200 (2002 fee) + International student unit fee: $1750 (2002 fee); course fee $14,000 (2002 fee) + Attendance not required

Aims

The Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) and the Graduate Certificate of Business (Management) courses are designed primarily for graduates who wish to increase their knowledge and skills in management theory and practice. The courses are appropriate for existing or prospective managers who can demonstrate the appropriate level of academic competence.

Entry requirements

Graduate certificate

An applicant for admission to candidature must have a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.

Graduate diploma

Applicants require a pass degree from a recognised tertiary institution or an equivalent qualification as determined by the faculty board; or an executive certificate offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics with an average grade of credit or above.

Intake

Applicants should note that there are two intakes per year to these courses, one to commence in semester one and the second to commence in semester two.

Special requirements

PC requirement

Access to an IBM-compatible computer is essential for the use of word processing and other software packages. It is also recommended that off-campus learning students have access to a modem to facilitate email communication with teaching staff and access to web-based teaching material.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate of Business (Management) consists of two core units and two elective units normally taken over one year of study as follows:

Two elective units from any complementary graduate-level unit that satisfies the objectives and standards, subject to availability, with approval from the course director. Candidates should be aware of the compulsory unit requirements of the Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) and the Master of Business Management should future articulation into these courses be a consideration.
The Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) is a two-year off-campus learning program. It consists of four core units and four elective units as follows:

Assessment

Assessment is by a combination of assignments and/or final examination for each unit. Generally, a pass is required in the final examination to pass the unit.

Advanced standing for previous study

Applicants who have completed graduate-level units at another recognised tertiary institution, within the last five years, which are similar in content to a unit forming part of the course of study may apply for a credit exemption to a maximum of 50 per cent of the course.
