The Centre for Graduate Studies in Clinical Nursing (MMC Clayton) offers a Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Neonatal Care) in partnership with the Southern Health Care Network. This course is designed to respond to the demand within industry for nurses with specialist skills in caring for ill and/or premature neonates. An extensive and diverse range of clinical experience is offered, incorporating the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Nursery and other agencies which care for children and families.

Aims

This course aims to provide registered nurses with the in-depth knowledge and specialist skills required to provide comprehensive care for the ill and/or premature neonate and family in a variety of neonatal care environments.

Course outline

Students will be required to undertake three core subjects and five specialist subjects, for a total of eight subjects. Students may enrol full-time and complete the course in one year. Alternatively, in a part-time enrolment, students will normally complete the course in two years. Subjects are scheduled in a manner which enables the students to undertake part-time employment.
