Practicum studies 6 (preferential)

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have acquired a personal resource file to support their teaching in an early childhood setting; an advanced understanding of the nature of best practice teaching and learning in early childhood education; a respect for the diversity of the settings, client groups and workers in children's services; an ability to plan and implement programs to meet this diversity incorporating the theories of early childhood education into a personal philosophy and practice. Students should also be able to demonstrate the ability to design, undertake and report on a research project related to their practicum.

Synopsis Strand 'A' of this subject will focus on supporting the students in their final practicum placement and will therefore be delivered through a ruse of flexible options. The subject will link closely to EDP4504 and EDP4503. The students will be actively exploring the resources and agencies that support early childhood programs/services in Victoria. Guest speakers from the field will be used to assist students to broaden their understanding of early childhood education. Tutorial sessions examining best practice teaching and learning at an advanced level of understanding will be utilised. Students will be encouraged to link these sessions to their teaching on practicum and to the development of their own philosophy of early childhood education. In Strand 'B' of this subject, students will undertake an approved preferential placement with a minimum of twenty supervised days.

Assessment Research paper and seminar presentation (2000 words): 60% - Written assignment (1500 words): 40% - Hurdle: satisfactory standard in practicum placement and participation in tutorial workshops and related tasks
