Course description

This double degree course allows students to qualify with both the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business (Management) degrees.

The Bachelor of Arts is a general, flexible degree which allows students to match academic interests with career aspirations to create a personalised course progression. Studying humanities will develop general knowledge and specific intellectual skills relating to human thought and relations, such as the way we communicate or how the past has affected the present. Social science analyses and explains societies and the relationships of individuals within those societies.

The Bachelor of Business (Management) component of this double degree offers a basic grounding in a broad range of business disciplines, with a focus on management.

Course objectives

This course offers graduates a business degree with a strong emphasis on management studies in the diverse fields of management including managerial communication, organisational behaviour, international management, human resources and strategic management, combined with the broad teaching and learning objectives of the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Course structure

Students must complete 96 points in the Bachelor of Arts component and 108 points in the Bachelor of Business (Management) component.

Course requirements

Arts component

(a) an arts discipline major (48 points)

(b) an arts discipline minor (24 points)

(c) an additional arts discipline first-year sequence (12 points)

(d) a further 12 points in arts units.

Business component

(a) Inner core – completion of six compulsory units (36 points):

(b) Outer core – completion of six outer core units (36 points), including the two compulsory units (12 points) listed below and a further four units (24 points) from the remaining units listed:

  • AFF2631 Financial management
  • AFF2851 Accounting information systems and financial modelling
  • BTF2220 Corporations law and trusts*
  • BTF2601 Banking law
  • ECF2550/3550 Business in Asia
  • ETX2111 Business data modelling
  • MGF2351 International business (compulsory)
  • MGF3401 Strategic management (compulsory)
  • MKF2111 Buyer behaviour
  • MKF3141 Issues in competitive advantage

    * Required for professional body recognition

(c) Strand – the following six units (36 points) are compulsory and complete a major specialisation in management:

(d) a maximum of 10 first-year-level units

(e) a minimum of four third-year-level units.

Note that students have a maximum of 10 years to complete this course.

Professional recognition

This degree is recognised as meeting academic requirements for membership by the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI).
