Master of Practising Accounting

Course description

This course is designed for students with a degree in a field other than accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting concepts and procedures and is suitable for those who wish to work in public practice, industry or academia. The course, which is recognised by CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, enables graduates to affiliate with the professional body of their choice. The course will encompass studies in financial and managerial accounting, finance, taxation, business law and auditing.

Entry requirements

Applicants need to have completed:

• a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, or
• an Executive Certificate in Accounting from Monash University with a credit average or above.

Advanced standing

Candidates may be eligible for advanced standing for a maximum of four credit exemptions (24 points) for units considered to be equivalent to particular units completed at graduate level. Under faculty policy, candidates may be eligible for a further two credit exemptions (12 points) for units considered to be equivalent to particular units completed at graduate level.

Candidates who can show that substantial study has been completed at undergraduate level that overlaps the content of a graduate unit may apply for substitution of that unit for an elective unit.

Candidates who have completed the Monash's Graduate Diploma in Accounting in the past five years will be eligible for eight units of credit (48 points).

Professional recognition

For students already holding an undergraduate degree, completion of this course will enable graduates to meet the academic requirements for associate membership status with the CPA Australia and satisfies the entry into the CA program of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
