Units indexed by faculty Master of Professional AccountingCourse code: 0826 + Course abbreviation: MProfAcc + Total credit points required: 96 + 4 semesters full-time, 8 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOn-campus (Caulfield; Clayton; Gippsland) Course descriptionThis course is designed for students with a degree in a field other than accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting concepts and procedures and is suitable for those who wish to work in public practice, industry or academia. The course, which is recognised by CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, enables graduates to affiliate with the professional body of their choice. The course will encompass studies in financial and managerial accounting, finance, taxation, business law and auditing. Entry requirementsApplicants need to have completed:
Advanced standingCandidates may be eligible for advanced standing for a maximum of four credit exemptions (24 points) for units considered to be equivalent to particular units completed at graduate level. Under faculty policy, candidates may be eligible for a further four exemptions (24 points) for units considered to be equivalent to particular units completed at graduate level. Candidates who can show that substantial study has been completed at undergraduate level that overlaps the content of a graduate unit may apply for substitution of that unit for an elective unit. Candidates who have completed the Monash's Graduate Diploma in Accounting in the past five years will be eligible for eight units of credit (48 points). Those who have completed the Master of Practising Accounting in the last five years will be eligible for 12 units of credit (72 points). Course structure(a) Students must complete 12 core units (72 points):
(b) Students must complete four (24 points) 4000-level or 5000-level units from any faculty across the university subject to the approval of the course director. Professional recognitionFor students already holding an undergraduate degree, completion of this course will enable graduates to meet the academic requirements for associate membership status with CPA Australia and satisfies the entry requirements of the CA Program of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
