Synopsis: This unit will cover Information and Network Security techniques as well as fundamental security algorithms. Main topics will include the following: OSI security architecture, common information risks and requirements, operation of encryption techniques, digital signatures, authentication and non-repudiation, privacy and ethics issues, security configurations to PC based applications, design of information systems with security compliance and security standards and protocols. Access to the university's computer systems through an Internet service provider is compulsory for off-campus students.
Assessment: Two assignments 40%, Examination 60%
