Course description

The course is designed to provide a degree structure with a major sequence of units in the area of risk management. It recognises the fundamental importance of risk management in today's commercial world and seeks to provide graduates with extended skills in these areas. It will also prepare them for the range of increasingly complex risk management issues they will face when employed in many areas of business and in government agencies. The course has been designed to meet the real-world needs of students and a wide-range of potential employers.

Course structure

Majors and other studies

Students must complete a major specialisation in risk management.
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Caulfield campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These other studies can in some cases form a second major in a business discipline.

Up to six open electives may also be taken from other campuses or other Monash faculties.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

  1. Completion of six compulsory common core units (36 credit points):

  2. Outer core - completion of six outer-core units (36 credit points), including the two compulsory units (12 credit points) listed below and a further four units (24 credit points) from the remaining units listed below:

  3. Strand - the following six units (36 credit points) are compulsory and complete a major specialisation in risk management:

  4. A total of 24 units (144 credit points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

  5. A maximum of 10 first-year-level units (60 credit points).

  6. A minimum of six third-year-level units (36 credit points), of which at least four units (24 credit points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.

  7. An option to include a maximum of six units (36 credit points) in disciplines taught by other Monash faculties or from units offered on campuses other than the campus delivering this program.

  8. At least two non-compulsory units (12 credit points) must be outside the main field of study.
