Course code: 2025 + Clayton + Administered by the Faculty of Education
A combined course for the Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education degrees enables students to take out both degrees after four years of full-time study. Students complete 204 points of study in core music and education components.
For the music component, students must complete 108 music points (studies
offered by the School of Music - Conservatorium in the Faculty of Arts) in
approved combinations of units in music performance, composition, musicology
and ethnomusicology. The 108 music points must consist of 36 points at
first-year level (MUS1100/MUS1110, MUS1980/MUS1990, and either MUS1120/MUS1130 or
MUS1040 and MUS1060), 36 points at second-year level (MUS2020/MUS2030, MUS
2110/2120, MUS2980/MUS2990) and 36 points at third-year level (MUS3390,
MUS3980/MUS3990 and 18 points from MUS3310, MUS3330, MUS3490, MUS3580, MUS3610,
MUS3620, MUS3660, MUS3830, MUS3860, MUS3880, MUS3910). Students intending to
qualify as secondary teachers must choose music studies that satisfy
requirements for two teaching method specialisations.
Note that students cannot graduate from the Bachelor of Music until they have
satisfied the above requirements and successfully completed studies to the
value of 144 points. Students undertaking the above double degree program are
permitted to count up to 36 points of education units towards those 144
points.
