Music Composition and Technology Workshop II (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Students are guided in the composition of music that is informed by critical thinking and is influenced by a diversity of techniques and aesthetic points of view. Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to: compose a medium scale work that illustrates several compositional techniques that are informed by research, manage a composition project across the course of a semester, understand and discuss their composition in the context of their own creative process and demonstrate an understanding of key techniques and concepts in orchestration.

Assessment: Written (composition folio consisting of two original works - content 30%, notation 20%, presentation, 20%): 70% + Workshops and concert performance of at least one original work: 30%

Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 2 hour lecture) per week
