Synopsis: Distributed computing environments: information & information exchange issues; distributed IT infrastructures; components of a distributed information system; classes of distributed support services; systems development issues. Distributed systems: planning & control; problems in managing distributed system development; planning aids; work breakdown structures; estimating & software metrics; risk analysis & management of distributed system development. Team Management: staffing development teams. Control of development process: feedback of resources used; measuring progress; rescheduling, project deadlines; automated project management tools; implementation of distributed systems.

Assessment: Assignments: 30%, Weekly Assessments: 10%, Exam: 60%.

Contact Hours: 4 hours per week

Prerequisites: CPE1006 plus a further 12 points of 1st year Network Computing units.
