BUS2030Business communications (6 points)(IT) Leader: Fay Maglen (First and second semester) + Dineli Mather (Winter semester - IBL stream)
Offered: Synopsis: Communications theory and practice; intra-personal, interpersonal, public and mass communication; matching register (listening, speaking reading and writing and non-verbal behaviours) to context, audience and purpose; active-interactive listening; oral presentations - organisation, planning and delivery; writing - business and technical reports, memos, business letters, job applications and CVs, use of graphics; meetings and interviews - protocols and procedures; negotiation skills and conflict resolution; organisational culture and practices - professional roles and relationships, cross-cultural interactions, ethics and liability issues. Assessment: Assignments: 70% + Examination (2 hours): 30% + Attendance at tutorials is compulsory Contact Hours: One1-hour lecture and one 2-hour tutorial per week Prohibitions: CSC1040, CSC1050, SYS2204, MGW2100, MGW1100, CSE1304, CSE1305, ELC1001, MMS1001, GCO1063, MGW1230 |
