Course code: 2026 + Course abbreviation: BCom/BEd + The following
describes the course structure introduced in 2001 + For details of the old
structure, refer to the 2000 university handbook
The following should be read in conjunction with the statement on the Bachelor
of Commerce and the Bachelor of Education in the Education section of this
handbook.
The double-degree course of Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Education
requires a minimum of four-and-a-half years of full-time study, or
five-and-a-half years for a degree with honours, or the equivalent in part-time
study. Entry to this combination is based on the entry requirements for the
Bachelor of Commerce degree. Students must complete units to the value of a
minimum of 204 credit points over the length of the course, of which 108 points
should come from units offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics
(Clayton) and 96 points from the Faculty of Education. The education component
includes a program of field visits. While there is a degree of flexibility in
the commerce component of the course structure, students must normally complete
the eight compulsory first-year commerce units in the first two years of the
course.
(a) 108 points must be chosen from units offered by the Faculty of Business and
Economics (Clayton) and must include:

discipline or field of study of the Faculty of Business and Economics. This
requires students to complete 48 points of study in a single discipline or
field of study with at least 12 points at each of second and third-year level.
Disciplines are defined by department prefixes and fields of study are those
sets of related units that may be defined in the catalogue of courses and
units.
(iii) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points). In order to meet
this requirement, students are able to undertake the second-year versions of
the appropriate number of compulsory units.

at least four economics units and four accounting units, or at least four
economics units and four management units.
