The following should be read in conjunction with the entry on the Bachelor of
Commerce/Bachelor of Engineering in the Engineering section of this
handbook.
(a) 102 points (17 units) must be chosen from units offered by the Faculty of
Business and Economics (Clayton) and must include:
(i) Completion of the following compulsory units:
(ii) Completion of a major in a
discipline or field of study of the faculty. This requires students to complete
48 points of study in a single discipline or field of study with at least 12
points at each of second and third-year levels. Disciplines are defined by
department prefixes and fields of study are those sets of related units that
may be defined in the handbook.
(iii) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points). In order to meet
this requirement, students are able to undertake the second-year versions of
the appropriate number of compulsory units.
(b) The engineering major may be taken in one of the following: chemical,
civil, electrical and computer systems, materials or mechanical engineering,
and students are required to complete 192 points of engineering units in their
chosen field.
(i) Chemical engineering major: Not less than 151 points (or 155 depending on
prerequisites) must be obtained in prescribed units.
(ii) Civil engineering major: Not less than 144 points (or 148 depending on
prerequisites) must be obtained in prescribed units.
(iii) Electrical and computer systems engineering major: Not less than 156
points (or 160 depending on prerequisites) must be obtained in prescribed
units.
(iv) Materials engineering major: Not less than 150 points (or 154 depending on
prerequisites) must be obtained in prescribed units.
(v) Mechanical engineering major: Not less than 157 points (or 161 depending on
prerequisites) must be obtained in prescribed units.
Students are referred to the 'Engineering' section of this handbook for
detailed tables of engineering units.
Students must have the commerce program of study approved by the commerce
course coordinator (or nominee) and the engineering program of study approved
by the engineering course coordinator (or nominee) prior to the commencement of
the relevant year.
