Course code: 3511 + Gippsland campus + HECS fees applicable + Attendance compulsory for some units
The course has been designed to prepare students to work at a professional level in a scientifically oriented environment in which application of modern business techniques is required, or in a commercial environment in which a background in science or information technology is desirable. The course involves four years of full-time study or the equivalent in part-time study or off-campus distributed learning.
The
basic requirement for entry to the course is satisfactory completion of a
secondary school program equivalent to the VCE. Applicants will be expected to
have above-average results in Year 12 English and mathematics, plus preferably
at least one unit of Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
Students who have completed the first year of the normal Bachelor of Science or
Bachelor of Business and Commerce at the Gippsland campus with good academic
results may be admitted to the second year of the double degree with full
credit for appropriate first-year studies.

Access to an IBM-compatible computer is essential for the use of word processing and other software packages. It is also recommended that off-campus distributed learning students have access to a modem to facilitate email communication with teaching staff.
Students enrolling in all laboratory-based second and third-level units, as well as some first-level units, must attend on-campus laboratory sessions. The majority of these sessions are conducted in residential schools held once per semester, and are typically from three to seven days duration. For some units, laboratory work is conducted twice per semester during weekend schools.
Units
with a total credit points value of at least 90 points from the Faculty of
Science units and 108 points from the Faculty of Business and Economics are to
be completed, meeting the following requirements:
(a) Completion of six compulsory units:

business major of at least 48 points, including at least 12 points at each of
second and third levels (one core unit from part (a) may form part of the 48
points requirement).
(c) Completion of at least 48 points of business units beyond first level,
including at least 24 points at third level (the business sequence meets part
of this requirement). Business majors: accounting, business law, economics,
electronic commerce, management and marketing
(d) Completion of two six-point science core units:
MTH1210/STA1010 Statistical methods for science at first level
(e) Science discipline sequences: applied biology, applied statistics, applied chemistry, mathematics and modelling, human physiology, psychology, and resource and environmental management.
Appropriate credits may be granted for approved studies completed at a recognised post-secondary institution, including other universities, TAFE institutes and the Open Learning Agency of Australia. The faculty's Credit Assessment and Tracking System (CATS) is a web-based record of credits that have been granted for students in the past.
