The Master of Business (Banking and Finance) by coursework and minor thesis
aims to provide a masters level of study for banking and finance professionals
from all levels who are seeking to deepen their level of knowledge and to
enhance their practical skills in the banking and finance industry.
The course comprises 16 subjects and is designed for two years of full-time
study. The first year consists of four core subjects and four electives. The
second year contains eight elective coursework subjects at an appropriate
level. Alternatively, students with excellent results in their first year of
study may undertake a minor thesis and five course subjects. Students wishing
to undertake the thesis option should complete AFC4100 (Research methods in
accounting and finance). This is only offered during the day in the March to
June semester. This subject may be taken as a second semester of study first
year elective with permission of the course director.
Applicants need to have completed, with an average grade of credit or above, a
degree from a recognised tertiary institution with at least an average grade of
credit, or, for entry into the second year, an honours degree in a relevant
discipline, or the Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance, or an equivalent
qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. No credit for work done
previously is available in this masters degree.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of
Accounting and Finance as to the 2001 course fee. Course fees are set and
reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Students who have completed a Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance with an average grade of credit or equivalent will only need to complete year two subjects.
