The course has been designed to prepare students to work at a professional level in a scientifically oriented environment in which application of modern business techniques is required, or in a commercial environment in which a background in science or information technology is desirable.
The
basic requirement for entry to the course is satisfactory completion of a
secondary school program equivalent to the VCE. Applicants will be expected to
have above-average results in Year 12 English and Mathematics, plus preferably
at least one subject of either Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry or
Physics.
Students who have completed the first year of the normal Bachelor of Science or
Bachelor of Business and Commerce at the Gippsland campus with good academic
results may be admitted to the second year of the double degree with full
credit for appropriate first-year studies.
Mature age applicants will be assessed on the basis of their employment and
overall educational background and career objectives.

Subjects
with a total credit value of at least 90 points from Faculty of Science
subjects and 108 points from Faculty of Business and Economics subjects are to
be completed, meeting the following requirements:
(a) Completion of six compulsory introductory 6-point subjects, one in each of
the following business disciplines:
AFW1001 Introductory accounting A
ECW1101 Introductory microeconomics
BTW1200 Business law
MGW1010 Managing people and organisations
MKW1120 Marketing theory and practice
ETW1102 Business statistics
Note: Upon completion of the required science subject STA1010 Statistical
Methods for Science students will be given credit for the compulsory Business
Mathematics and Statistics subject, thereby reducing the total course
requirement from 198 to 192 points.
(b) Completion of a business major of at least 48 points (eight subjects),
including at least 12 points at each of second and third levels. (One core
subject from part (a) may form part of the 48 point's requirement).
(c) Completion of at least forty-eight points of business subjects beyond first
level, including at least twenty-four points at third level (the business major
sequence meets part of this requirement).
(d) Completion of two 6-point science core subjects:
STA1010 Statistical
Methods for Science at first level
SCI2010 How Science Works at second
level
(e) Completion of two science discipline sequences (excluding computing)
consisting of :
12 + 18 + 24 or 12 + 12 + 24 or 12 + 18 + 18 points in one discipline area
across levels 1, 2 and 3 respectively; and
24 points in a second discipline area (including at least 12 points from levels
2 and 3)
(f) Completion of one six-point first level science subject from a discipline
area other than those studied under part (e).
Science discipline sequences are available in the following areas (consult BSc
entry for details): applied biology, applied statistics, applied chemistry,
mathematics and modelling, human physiology, psychology, and resource and
environmental management.
