Statistical methods for science

6 points + Three 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour laboratory per week + First/ Second Semester: Clayton + First Semester: Gippsland/ Distance + First Semester: Malaysia + Prohibitions: GAS1631, MAT1060, MAT1711, MAT1722, MTH1210, MTH2210 or STA2010

Synopsis: Descriptive statistics, scatter plots, correlation, line of best fit. Elementary probability theory. Confidence intervals and hypothesis tests using normal, t and binomial distributions. Use of Minitab.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Assignments/ laboratories and tests: 30%
