Objectives On completion of this subject a student will be able to identify classes of commercially important drugs and agrochemicals. They will know how they are produced on a large scale and will understand how their performance can be improved by structural modification.
Synopsis The topics to be discussed in eight lecture units include drug discovery, biologically important natural products and herbicides and pesticides. A discussion of the historical evolution of the development of drugs from natural products to modern synthesis will be included.
Assessment Examination (1x2 hours): 75% - Practical work: 25%
