Synopsis This subject provides students with a comprehensive and clinically meaningful final preparation for transition to practice as competent first level registered nurses, in an area of their choosing. The students will be under the auspices of suitably skilled and interested academic and clinical practitioners. This subject allows students to explore an area of special nursing interest, such as acute care, community health, mental health, paediatrics, maternal and child health. It promotes the students responsibility for their own learning by exercising choice, developing objectives and negotiating to fulfil these objectives in consultation with nursing academic staff. Students are required to be self directed in their learning and to prepare a learning contract to cover both theoretical and clinical components of the subject. Mentorship/ guidance will be provided for students to facilitate this process. Where possible, the student will be paired with a preceptor in the clinical setting who has expertise in the particular field.
Assessment Learning contract-learning theory: 10% · Assignments: 80% · Clinical care plan: 10%
