Nineteenth-century Greek literature

Objectives Students are expected to read all of the prescribed texts in the original Greek (with assistance of translations in the case of those in katharevousa) and to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of their historical and cultural background, of the major literary and artistic developments in Europe which influenced nineteenth-century Greek literature, and of basic concepts of literary criticism.

Synopsis A study of texts representative of major stages in the development of Greek literature in the nineteenth century.

Assessment Seminar paper (1000 words): 15%
* Essay (2500 words): 45%
* Examination (2.5 hours): 40%
* Students will be required to write on a minimum of five prescribed texts in their assessed work.
