Modern Greek language and culture B

* Prerequisites: VCE Modern Greek or equivalent knowledge of the language.

Objectives Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key issues in modern Greek history and culture, and of the main features of Greek syntax. They will also be expected to demonstrate mastery of selected features of standard Greek morphology and syntax orally and in writing.

Synopsis The subject is a continuation of MGR1070 and has similar aims and methods. Topics studied include the Great Idea; the Asia Minor Catastrophe; the Cyprus Problem; Tachtsis's Trito stefani; and perceptions of Greek national identity.

Assessment Essay (2000 words in English or Greek): 25%
* Examination (2 hours): 50%
* Language assignments and exercises, oral test: 25%
