Racism and prejudice

* Prerequisites: KRS2010 and KRS2020

Objectives To research and document the interrelationship between Koories and social institutions, as part of an ongoing process to assemble information on Koorie issues and to increase awareness in regard to the racism experienced by Koories in all aspects of their life.

Synopsis Students will be required to address the issues of race, ethnicity, prejudice and racism. Particular emphasis will be placed on studies of language use in a multicultural context, the representation of Koories in the media and other forms of popular culture. Research by students may include attitudes and behaviour towards Koories in contemporary Australian situations.

Assessment Research paper (3000 words): 40%
* Examination (2 hours): 40%
* Tutorial paper and written summary (1000 words): 10%
* Attendance and participation: 10%
