Description

Drawing on units from such disciplines as marketing, management, communications and public relations, the degree offers universal business skills with a distinct sporting focus. It combines this with a practical orientation stemming from a work placement unit in the actual sporting industry.

Objectives

The Bachelor of Sports Promotion and Events Management is designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the business of managing and promoting sporting events.

Structure

Students complete:

  • core units
  • a 48-point major
  • a 24-point minor
  • additional elective studies.

Requirements

Students complete:

(a.) the following compulsory core units (48 points):

  • AUS1070 Sport and society in Australia
  • BEW3100 Work placement program (12 points) or BEW3200 Research project in sports events management (12 points).
  • MGW2150 Sports events management
  • MKW1120 Marketing theory and practice
  • MKW2420 Marketing research methods
  • MKX3200 Sport marketing and sponsorship
  • PRL1001 Foundations of public relations

(b.) a major in sports promotion or events management (48 points)

(c.) a minor in arts or business (not from chosen major (24 points)

(d.) a further 24 points of elective units at either first, second or third year level

Students must complete:

  • a minimum of 36 points at third-year level (includes those completed in the major(s)
  • no more than 10 units (60 points) at a first-year level.
