    Course description

This course is designed for graduates who wish to increase their knowledge and skills associated with understanding and applying management and business theory and practice in general, and specifically in relation to managing business organisations locally, regionally, internationally and globally. Students will develop an advanced and mature level of attributes in the area of written and oral communication, enquiry, information literacy, self-direction, teamwork, global outlook, moral and social responsibility and creativity.

Course objectives

The learning goals associated with this course are to: develop an advanced and mature level of attributes in the area of written and oral communication, enquiry, information literacy, self direction, teamwork, global outlook, moral and social responsibility, curiosity and creativity; provide an understanding of contemporary issues within the various disciplines of local and global business management; identify knowledge and skills associated with understanding and applying management and business theory and practice in general, and also specifically to managing business organisations locally, regionally, internationally and globally; provide the potential to specialise in the area of business management of specific interest to the candidate; develop skills in conducting research and in communicating research findings.

Course requirements

(a) Students must complete six core units (36 points):

  • MGG5810 Cultural values and management practices
  • MGG5820 Management development for global business
  • MGG9370 Management theory and practice
  • MGG9371 Strategic management
  • MGX5461 Contemporary issues in globalisation
  • MGX9850 Human resource management

(b) students must complete six elective units (36 points) from 9000-level or 5000-level units subject to the following conditions:

(i) units from the following list:

  • AFG9070 Financial management
  • BTG9241 Employment law
  • BTG9270 Business law
  • ECG9170 Issues in labour economics
  • GCO4801 Business information systems
  • GCO5806 Internet commerce
  • GCO5816 Information technology management
  • MGG9325 Human resource development

  • MGX5551 Strategic human resource management
  • MGX5560 Case studies in services management
  • MGX5770 Business and government
  • MGX9220 Industrial and workplace relations

  • MGX9720 Managing change
  • MKX9160 Foundations of marketing

(ii) units from any faculty of the university.

Additional degree requirements:

  • students must study a minimum of four 5000-level units
