Course description

This course, offered by the Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CALT), is designed to equip teachers in higher education institutions for the rapidly changing teaching and learning environment in which they operate. It seeks to encourage a scholarly and professional approach to university teaching. Upon completing the course, participants should be able to demonstrate knowledge and competence in the following areas: designing and evaluating a teaching program, using a range of teaching methods, and designing and applying assessment strategies aligned to learning objectives. Participants should also be able to demonstrate the application of the above knowledge and competencies to their discipline or professional area.

Course Objectives

The course provides staff with the opportunity to develop their own teaching and assessment approaches so that they can teach effectively in a variety of contexts and work with a variety of students.

Course structure

Core units

The units HED5001, HED5002 and HED5003 are prerequisites for HED5004. However, students should consult the course adviser to assist in planning their program if a different pathway is required.
