Course description

This double degree course allows students to qualify with both the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and Bachelor of Visual Arts degrees.

This double-degree course provides foundation knowledge in a wide range of business and visual arts disciplines and a broad perspective on business.

Course structure

Areas of study

Students must complete a major in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, business law, economics, e-business, human resource management, international business, management and marketing. All units taken as part of the major are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.

Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Gippsland campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Students must also complete the prescribed units from the Faculty of Art and Design.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) students must complete 18 units (108 points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:

(i) six compulsory core units (36 points):

(ii) a major specialisation of eight units (48 points) in a discipline or field of study of the faculty with at least two units (12 points) at each of second and third-year levels. The major must come from the approved list of majors.

(iii) at least four non-compulsory units (24 points) must be taken outside the main field of study.

(iv) a maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 points).

(b) students must complete 16 units (96 points) from the Faculty of Art and Design as follows:

(i) six compulsory units (36 points):

(ii) completion of a compulsory OHS unit (0 points):

  • OHS1000 Introduction to art and design health and safety

(iii) completion of the following visual arts studio (36 points).

(iv) completion of two units of theory (12 points) at either second or third-year level (units with the prefix TAD).

(v) completion of two units (12 points) of complementary study chosen from either theory or studio disciplines.

(c) students must also satisfy the following double-degree regulations:

(i) completion of 34 units (204 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(ii) a maximum of 14 units (84 points) of first-year-level units.

(iii) a minimum of eight units (48 points) of third-year-level units.

This degree with relevant units is recognised by the following legal entities:

  • Australian Securities and Investments Commission
  • Australian Institute of Management
  • Australian Marketing Institute
  • CPA Australia
  • Tax Agents’ Board
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia
